I'm Carly! An IBCLC, military wife and mom of two!
I had two very different experiences feeding each of my babies which ultimately fueled my passion for helping families on their feeding journey!
With my first child, breastfeeding was extremely painful and I had a very low supply. I had recently moved to Washington state and had no support system. My daughter lost a lot of weight in the first few days postpartum, but instead of receiving lactation support, I was given formula. She was combination fed, and no matter how many lactation cookies I consumed, I ended up fully weaning at 3 months. I felt like a failure!
With my second, I was determined to exclusively breastfeed. We had recently relocated (again...). Because I lacked a support system I went to google, looking for tips and tricks to help me produce more milk. I used a Haakaa and pumped every two hours around the clock. I had a freezer full of milk, donated over 5000oz of breastmilk, and, most importantly, had a healthy baby. However, I often felt isolated and anxious due to the rigorous pumping schedule and the oversupply which resulted in painful engorgement and 3 bouts of mastitis. I exclusively breastfed for 3 years, but it wasn't always rainbows and butterflies!
From low supply to oversupply, breastfeeding to supplemental nursing systems, I've experienced it all! I can't wait to help you find your milk mode and reach your feeding goals!
